Outdoor Education Club - Our students recently challenged thenmselves on the Kletterwald ropes course. A student had to climb, use the zip line, rappel, and ride a bicycle on the ropes. It took a great deal of courage and our students were up to the task! pictures
5th Graders Learn about Native Americans - Our fifth graders recently completed a unit on Native Americans. The students then shared what they learned with the younger students in school. Being able to teach something you have learned indicates mastery of the subject matter. Great job fifth graders! pictures
Wonderful Wednesday Hike - Many parents, students, and community members participated in the hike up the Hausberg in preparation for Wonderful Wednesday. The ski program will begin in Janauary - make sure you are ready! For more information about Wonderful Wednesday go here. Pictures of the hike.
St. Martin's Day Lantern Parade - Our host nation and art teacher led our students in a parade through the school showing their newly made lanterns. pictures
First Grade Loves Bones- Our first grade students have been learning the names of the bones and how to keep them healthy through nutrition and exercise.
Halloween - Garmisch EMS elementary students enjoyed the special day by dressing up in the afternoon and participating in several "spooky" activities. They ended the day with a "spooky" parade. pictures
Columbus Play - Garmisch EMS celebrated Columbus Day with a play and poem starring our first grade class. pictures
Fire Safety Week - The first week of October was fire safety week at Garmisch EMS. We had a simulated fire with lots of smoke (disco fog) during our fire drill. The fire department gave demonstrations and rides in the fire truck. We even had a special simulated smoke inhalation victim. pictures
Bavarian Dress Up Day - Many students turned out in traditional Bavarian trachten to honor our host nation. Don't we look great! pictures
Fifth grades hike in the name of science - Our 5th graders recently completed a science hike that took them all over the Kramerplateau and all the way to the Werdenfelser ruins. How about some mushrooms? pictures
Garmisch elementary students visit the zoo - Students in grades K through 4th recently visited the Munich Zoo. The students learned a great deal about animals and their habitats. pictures

Constitution Day - Thursday, September 17 our students celebrated the signing of the US constitution. Our students have been learning about the Constitution and US goverment throughout the week. Our kindergarten students led us in the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by first through fifth grades singing several patriotic songs. pictures
First Grade Cook and Learn - Our first grade students use their hands to create their self image out of plants; such as fruits, vegetables, and grains. Students were learning about the parts of plants we eat. pictures
First Grade Science - First graders are digging up plants to examine the roots and determine if roots are important to plants. pictures
Third Grade art students get "down and dirty" with art. Students had a blast painting with their hands during art class. pictures
First Day of Kindergarten - The first day of kindergarten was August 31st. Students were eager to learn on their first day of "big" school. pictures

End of Year Awards Ceremony - On the last day of school, many awards were presented to students for academic and other acheivments. pictures
Field Day - Students and staff alike had a blast at the Garmisch ES/MS annual field day. This year's theme was baseball. Students learned good sportmanship and had great fun. Thank you to all the volunteers that made this day possible! pictures
Science Days - Our elementary students paricipated in a day of science as they went through several stations such as the Starlab, Mechanics of Flight, Electrical Circuits etc. pictures
Fairtale Forest - Our first graders have been comparing different versions of fairytales. They recently visited the Fairtale Forest to see animated depitctions of several famous fairtales. pictures
Physical Education - This spring our middle students received instruction in Pilates from the post gym trainer. Our students also had fun with the national pastime: baseball! pictures

Military Canine Demonstration - The Military Police recently came to school to show the skills of their working dogs. Our kindergarten teacher volunteered to be the "bad guy" for the demonstration. pictures
Month of the Military Child - Our students visited the bank and learned about saving money. Our students even had the chance to see inside of the vault! pictures
Talent Show - Students of Garmisch ES/MS showed their stuff at the student council sponsored talent show. Thanks for sharing your talent! pictures

Writing and Storytelling Workshop - The Garmisch ES/MS PTA organized a writing/storytelling workshop during the week of Terra Nova Testing. This workshop supports our school improvement goal by helping students to improve their writing skills across the curriculum. Thanks PTA! pictures
Read Across America - The National Education Association annually sponsors Read Across America. This event focuses on motivating children to read, in addition to helping them master basic skills. Garmisch ES/MS celebrated on March 2, the birthday of Dr. Seuss. Many parents and community members volunteered their time to read to our students. Thanks! pictures
Teacher Retirement - After more than 30 years in the classroom, our Middle School Social Studies teacher has retired. We wish her health and happiness in retirement. We will miss you! pictures
Snow Day! On February 24th the Garmisch are experienced heavy snow fall and school was cancelled for the day. The following day dawned sunny and beautiful. Here are a few pictures of the beautiful snow.
Math in the Middle Club meets Mondays and helps our students improve their math skills. Many volunteers from the community come to assist our students. This club supports our school improvement goal by helping students to increase their mathematical problem- solving skills across the curriculum. pictures
Odyssey of the Mind - Congratulations!!! Three of our four Odyssey of the Mind teams placed first in the Bavaria District competition. These teams will compete next in the DoDDS-Europe Division in Kaiserslautern, Germany on 28 March. pictures

Spelling Bee - Our students recently competed in a school wide Spelling Bee. Some of the words were quite challenging. Our queen bee and worker bee put in an appearance to help motivate our students. pictures
Wonderful Wednesday Ski Program - Our students are learning to ski every Wednesday afternoon and having a wonderful time. Check out the pictures.
Geographic Bee - Our students recently competed in a school level Geographic Bee. All participants did a great job! pictures
Winter Fest - Parents, students, teachers and friends gathered at Kean's Lodge Saturday, December 14 for sledding competitions, winter challenges, and snow building. There was also sleigh rides and a visit from Santa Claus. pictures
Winter Program - Our school celebrated the holidays with a performances from the kindergartners through fifth graders and the Garmisch EMS School Choir. pictures
Medieval Feast and the Pied Piper - Our Multi-Age and Fifth grade student recently participated in a medieval feast followed by a play performance of "The Pied Piper." pictures

Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony - The Garmisch ES/MS Chorus sang at the tree lighting ceremony on December first. Fun was had by all! pictures

Hockey Players Can Read! - Hockey players from the Riesersee Hockey Team recently came to volunteer their time and read with our children. Pictures
Painted Past Productions - This theater group presented plays about animals and conserving the environment to our younger students. The group also presented several skits about historical characters. Pictures
Fire Prevention Week - For Fire Prevention Week, we had simulated smoke during our fire drill. We then had a very informative visit from the local fire department. We even got to see the fire truck up close! Pictures

Baby Chicken - Two baby chickens hatched on Friday, September 19th. The first one hatched around 0630 while the second hatched during the mid morning while we watched. There are three videos of our new additions.
Constitution Assembly - Friday, September 19th our school celebrated the US Constitution with a whole assembly. The kindergarten students led us in a pledge, the multi-age students sang for us, and both the fifth grade and seventh grade students presented a very educational play. Click here for pictures.

National History Day Video
Odyssey of the Mind competition. Three teams participated in this competition. One team placed first and will have an opportunity to compete at the national competition. One of the other teams placed third. Congratulations!

During a recent 100 hours DoDDS Europe video competition, a team of Garmisch Middle School students won first place with their movie trailer video "Catfight, The Musical." Congratulations!

Our Outdoor Education club recently completed the ropes course here in Garmisch-P. 15 students climbed on the 5 challenging courses. Check out the pictures. You will notice how much fun the students had by looking at the smiles on their faces.
Our students have completed their virtual run across Montana in the 2008 PACEtrek run/walk. Our students logged a total of 620 miles during this trek. This is the same distance Mr. Paul Staso ran when he completed his trek across Montana-from the North Dakota border to the Idaho border. Way to go! Pictures
"I Love Science, it's fun!" That's what the kids were saying on Science day. Each child from K-5th did a science project, which was on display for the school and the parents. Then they were put in groups to learn about "beaks and feet", the "unnature trail", "earthquakes", and "the marble roll". "Inquiry", was definitely the word of the day. Pictures
Our PTA sponsored a very successful silent auction as well as a spaghetti dinner on Science day. The Odyssey of the Mind team performed, and everyone came together to have a great time. Pictures
